TACANATION (aka Taca, aka Maria Fernanda Albarracín) is an Argentine-born photographer whose work delves into themes of identity, resistance, and the power of storytelling. A former journalism student at the University of Buenos Aires, Taca moved to San Francisco in 2000, where she worked as a reporter, producer, and photographer for El Mensajero, the largest bilingual Latino newspaper in the city. Her work has been published in various newspapers across South America and Europe. Taca spent nine seasons with Shooting Stars, a company photographing youth sports throughout the Bay Area. For the past 16 years, she has focused on fine art photography, participating in several shared exhibits. She is currently showcasing her first solo exhibit at Medicine for Nightmares in the Mission District, available for viewing until March 15th.

“Our family moved to the Bayview-Hunters Point (BVHP) district in 2016. During our time in the area, I participated in two shared exhibits at the 3rd Street Gallery, a temporary art space curated by Danielle Satinover. Through ArtSpan, I also took part in two Open Studios at the Bayview Opera House. In June 2024, we relocated to Hunters Point, continuing our connection to this vibrant community.”
