Conni McKenzie is a multidisciplinary artist working across dance, film, and installation. Her practice explores the intersections of embodiment, environment, and collective healing. She has presented work at the SF Dance Film Festival and in galleries and public spaces across California. Her current project, Borrowed, is a site-specific performance and installation reflecting on ecological and cultural displacement, recently supported by the SFAC & Kenneth Rainin Foundation. Conni has held residencies with PUSH Dance Company, BoxoPROJECTS, New Performance Traditions, and SFAC Galleries. She creates immersive, community-engaged work that amplifies underrepresented voices and centers nature as a site for restoration and resistance. Connie is one of two 2024–2025 Artists in Residence at India Basin Waterfront Park at 900 Innes.
“Bayview–Hunters Point pulses with creative resilience. This community holds the legacy of visionaries and risk-takers who have fought to build something better despite systemic neglect in an anti-Black liberal city. As I develop site-specific projects here, I am continually inspired by the neighborhood’s histories, people, and ecosystems. My work seeks to honor BVHP’s ongoing resistance and beauty while creating space for dialogue around extraction, healing, and belonging.”
